Let’s Talk Patch Testing — And Why It’s Not Just “Extra” 💬👀

I know it’s tempting to skip a patch test when your client seems fine or has had treatments before — but hear me loud and clear: Patch testing is a legal requirement under the Health & Safety at Work Act (Section 3). 👩⚖️

It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about keeping your clients safe and your business protected.

So What Is a Patch Test?

It’s a small, simple test that helps us check for allergic reactions before full treatment. Reactions don’t always show up immediately — sometimes it takes time. So even returning clients should be re-tested every 6 months.

Here’s How I Do It for Lash Lifts & Brow Laminations:

  1. Tint goes on the inner side of the right arm

  2. Steps 1, 2, 3, and bonder go on the inner left arm

  3. Cover each test spot with micropore tape (just enough to stop rubbing)

  4. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then remove

  5. Keep an eye out for redness, itching, or bumps
⚠️ If they react to the tape, it could just be the adhesive — you can re-test without it.

When to Patch Test?

24 to 48 hours before their appointment — perfect time to pair it with a consultation. It keeps you prepared and lets your client feel taken care of from the get-go.

Real Talk:

Skipping this step puts you at risk — not just ethically but legally. If anything goes wrong and you didn’t offer a patch test? That waiver you had them sign won’t hold up in court.

✨ Be the pro who does things properly. Your clients deserve it, and your business does too.
