When choosing a professional lash adhesive, most lash artists spend time thinking about drying speed, viscosity, temperature and humidity.
But there is another choice to make:
Should you buy a 3g or 5g bottle of lash adhesive?
The answer is not automatically “buy the bigger bottle because it works out better value”.
The best size depends on how often you lash, how much adhesive you realistically use and how well you look after your bottle once it has been opened.
Is There Any Difference Between 3g and 5g Lash Adhesive?
If you are choosing the same adhesive, the bottle size does not change how that adhesive is designed to perform.
A 3g version is not slower, faster or weaker simply because there is less adhesive in the bottle.
You should still choose your adhesive according to factors such as:
- your placement speed
- the adhesive drying speed
- viscosity
- your treatment-room environment
- the way you work
Bottle size is about how much adhesive you need, not which adhesive is suitable for you.
Who Is a 3g Lash Adhesive Best For?
A 3g bottle can make a lot of sense if you are not using large quantities of adhesive every week.
For example, it may suit:
- newly qualified lash artists building their client base
- part-time lash artists
- technicians offering lashes alongside other treatments
- artists who have recently changed adhesive and do not yet know how quickly they will use a bottle
- anyone who simply prefers buying smaller quantities at a time
Buying a larger bottle does not save money if a significant amount of it eventually goes unused.
A smaller bottle can therefore be the more sensible choice for an artist with a lower appointment volume.
Who Is a 5g Lash Adhesive Best For?
A 5g bottle is generally more suitable for a busy lash artist who already knows they regularly use enough adhesive to justify the larger size.
That could include:
- full-time lash artists
- technicians with a consistently busy lash diary
- salons with regular extension appointments
- artists who already know and trust their chosen adhesive
- technicians who comfortably use their adhesive while it is still performing as expected
A larger bottle will usually offer better value per gram, but that only becomes genuine value if you actually use the adhesive.
There is little point saving money per gram if some of those grams ultimately end up in the bin.
Does a 5g Lash Glue Bottle Last Longer Once Opened?
This is where bottle size can sometimes cause confusion.
Buying more adhesive does not mean you should automatically keep an opened bottle for longer simply because there is more product left.
How long an adhesive remains usable depends on the formulation, storage, handling and how the adhesive is actually behaving.
Ladybug Lashes cosmetic-grade adhesives can remain usable for around three months or longer after opening when correctly stored and handled, although every bottle should still be monitored for changes in consistency or performance.
For more detail, read our guide on how long lash glue lasts once opened.
That means the question shouldn't simply be:
“How long can I keep a 5g bottle?”
A better question is:
“Will I realistically use enough of this bottle while it is still performing normally?”
Should I Buy a Smaller Bottle to Keep My Glue Fresher?
Potentially — but don't assume that smaller automatically means fresher or better.
If you regularly work through a 5g bottle without problems, there is no reason to move to 3g purely because somebody has told you smaller bottles are always better.
Equally, if you repeatedly throw away half-full 5g bottles because you simply don't use enough adhesive, buying 3g may be more practical.
The right size is the one that fits your workload.
What If I Am Trying a New Lash Adhesive?
If you are changing to a completely different adhesive, you don't necessarily need to jump straight into either a 3g or 5g bottle.
This is exactly why we offer 1g Lash Adhesive Samples.
A sample allows you to test things such as:
- whether the drying speed matches your placement speed
- whether you like the viscosity
- how the adhesive behaves in your working environment
- whether it suits your technique
Once you know the adhesive is right for you, you can then decide whether 3g or 5g makes more sense for your normal workload.
A sample is for testing.
A 3g bottle is a full-size working option for artists who need less adhesive.
A 5g bottle is better suited to artists who know they will use the additional volume.
They each serve a different purpose.
Does Having More Clients Mean I Automatically Need 5g?
Not necessarily.
Client numbers are useful, but they aren't the only factor.
Two lash artists with the same number of appointments may use different amounts of adhesive depending on:
- how frequently they refresh their glue dot
- the lash styles they create
- treatment length
- their dispensing technique
- how many extension treatments they actually perform compared with infills or other services
This is why we don't believe there needs to be a rigid rule such as “X clients means you must buy a 5g bottle”.
Look at your actual usage.
If you regularly finish your 3g bottle while it is still working perfectly, moving to 5g may make financial sense.
If your 5g bottles repeatedly have plenty left when you decide they need replacing, 3g may suit your business better.
Don't Choose Bottle Size Before Choosing the Right Glue
There is one thing much more important than deciding between 3g and 5g:
Choosing an adhesive that actually matches the way you work.
A bigger bottle of an adhesive that is too fast for your placement speed isn't better value.
Neither is a smaller bottle of an adhesive you've chosen purely because somebody else recommended it.
At Ladybug Lashes, our professional adhesive range includes different drying speeds so artists can select according to their own working speed.
If you're unsure, our Which Lash Adhesive Is Right for Me? guide explains the differences between our adhesives, or you can begin with a 1g adhesive sample before committing to a full bottle.
So, Should I Buy 3g or 5g Lash Adhesive?
The simplest answer is:
Choose 3g if you use less adhesive. Choose 5g if you know you will use more.
Don't choose the biggest bottle simply because it appears better value.
Think about how busy you actually are, how quickly you normally use your adhesive and how much product you tend to have left when a bottle eventually needs replacing.
The best-value bottle isn't necessarily the biggest one.
It's the one you actually use.
