Why We Sell Eyelash Excellence: The Products We Chose and Why

In Part 1, I talked about how my friendship with Frankie started, and how one post back in January 2024 opened my eyes to some of the product-safety issues within the lash industry.

That friendship came first.

The products came afterwards.

And I think that distinction matters, because although Frankie and I talk every day, share ideas, troubleshoot problems and generally bounce off each other constantly, that does not mean everything Eyelash Excellence produces automatically gets a place on the Ladybug Lashes website.

It still has to earn that place.

We already develop and sell a huge range of our own professional lash products, so there would be absolutely no point in bringing in another brand just to duplicate what we already do.

The Eyelash Excellence products we choose to stock are there because they offer something different, fill a genuine gap, or give our customers another option that we genuinely believe is worth having.

Ladybug Lashes already has its own professional lash adhesive range, and it is an area of the business I am incredibly passionate about.

So why would we stock somebody else’s adhesive?

Because sometimes a traditional lash adhesive simply isn’t the right answer for every client.

Some clients naturally produce more oils around the eye area. Some use skincare products that contain oils. Some artists find they have those frustrating clients where everything looks perfect at the appointment but retention simply does not behave the way they expect it to.

That is where having another adhesive technology available can be incredibly useful.

Frankie has spent years researching lash adhesives, retention and product behaviour, and Eyelash Excellence’s oil-resistant range gives artists an alternative option rather than simply telling them to keep trying different versions of the same thing.

For me, that complements our adhesive range rather than competes with it.

I would much rather give an artist another genuine option when they need one than pretend that one type of adhesive will solve every retention problem for every client.

Coloured YY Lashes

Anyone who knows Ladybug knows that we love colour.

We already have our own coloured lash collections, but that does not mean we need to manufacture our own version of every possible lash style.

Eyelash Excellence coloured YY lashes fitted into our range because they give artists something different.

YY lashes create a completely different texture and finished effect from a traditional volume lash, so adding colour into that style gives artists even more freedom when creating softer colour sets, mixed sets or something completely different from standard black.

They sit beautifully alongside our existing colour collection without simply duplicating it.

And this is something I feel quite strongly about as a supplier:

Not every good product needs to have our logo on the box.

If another professional brand already produces something brilliant that fits naturally into our range, why would we spend time recreating it purely so we can call it ours?

I'd rather give our customers access to the product that already does the job well.

Frankie Widdows Masterclasses

This one really does feel like a no-brainer.

Frankie has been working within the lash industry for more than a decade and has built an incredible reputation as a lash artist, international educator, competition judge and speaker.

She has trained thousands of lash artists and has a huge amount of hands-on technical knowledge behind what she teaches.

So why wouldn't I want Ladybug customers to have access to that?

Professional products are only one part of being a great lash artist.

Technique, styling, understanding your products and continuing to learn matter just as much.

One of the things I respect most about Frankie is that her education comes from years of actually doing the job, encountering problems, testing techniques and understanding why things work rather than simply teaching a set of steps.

We offer our own training at Ladybug Lashes, but again, that doesn't mean we need to pretend one educator can teach absolutely everything.

Different educators have different strengths.

And if I genuinely believe someone has knowledge that can make our customers better artists, I am very happy to point them in that direction.

Professional Tweezers, Including Dumont

Tweezers are incredibly personal.

Ask ten lash artists for their favourite pair and you will probably get ten different answers.

But quality and precision matter.

A lash artist can spend hours every day holding tweezers, isolating individual natural lashes, picking up fans and creating tiny movements that require an enormous amount of control.

Eyelash Excellence gives us access to exceptional professional tools, including Dumont tweezers.

Dumont has a long-standing reputation for precision tools, and sometimes there is simply no reason to try to recreate something that a specialist manufacturer already does exceptionally well.

Ladybug will continue developing our own tools, but I do not believe we need to fill the website with endless versions of essentially the same thing just so every pair carries our name.

If Frankie has found a tweezer that she rates highly, we trust her experience enough to take notice.

And if we test it, love it and believe our customers will too, then it deserves a place on our shelves.

We Don't Need to Make Everything Ourselves

This is probably the biggest reason the relationship between Ladybug Lashes and Eyelash Excellence works so well.

Neither of us needs to pretend we are the expert in absolutely everything.

We develop our own products when we genuinely believe we can bring something worthwhile to the market.

We research them, question them, test them and put a huge amount of work behind them.

But I have no interest in developing a Ladybug version of something purely because another brand sells one and therefore I think we should too.

Having your logo printed on a product doesn't automatically make it better.

Sometimes another company already has the knowledge, experience or product that fills that particular space perfectly well.

And I'm completely comfortable saying that.

Two Independent Brands That Complement Each Other

Ladybug Lashes and Eyelash Excellence overlap in plenty of areas.

Technically, we are competitors.

But we also have very different strengths, different product ranges and different areas of experience.

Instead of pretending that means we have to compete over every single product category, we've chosen to complement each other where it makes sense.

Frankie stocks selected Ladybug products because there are areas where our range and knowledge add something to hers.

And we stock selected Eyelash Excellence products because there are areas where her products, experience and education add something to ours.

I actually think that is a much healthier way for independent professional brands to work.

Our customers get more choice.

Artists get access to products and education we genuinely believe in.

And neither business has to start producing unnecessary copies of perfectly good products simply to tick another category off a list.

Why You'll Find Eyelash Excellence at Ladybug Lashes

Ultimately, the answer is simple.

We stock Eyelash Excellence because the products we have chosen deserve to be here.

Not because Frankie is my friend.

Not because there is a commercial agreement telling us we have to stock them.

And not because we are trying to turn Ladybug Lashes and Eyelash Excellence into one brand.

They remain two completely independent businesses.

The friendship introduced me to the person behind the products and gave me the opportunity to understand how Frankie thinks, researches and works.

But that alone would never be enough for me to recommend something to our customers.

The products still have to stand on their own.

The oil-resistant range gives artists another option when a traditional adhesive may not be enough.

The coloured YY lashes add another dimension to our colour collection.

The masterclasses give our customers access to education from someone whose experience I genuinely respect.

And the professional tweezers give artists access to tools that we believe deserve their reputation.

That's why they're here.

The friendship came first.

But the products earned their own place on the shelves.
