If you’ve been scrolling through lash content recently, you may have come across Arabic lashes or Arabic-inspired lash sets.
But are Arabic lashes a new type of lash extension? Do you need a special lash tray to create them? And why does L Curl keep appearing in these dramatic, lifted sets?
Let’s break it down.
What Are Arabic Lashes?
Arabic lashes aren’t a particular type of lash fibre or a completely separate lash extension technique.
The term is generally used to describe a bold, lifted and highly defined lash styling aesthetic, often featuring a dark lash line, strong direction, visible texture, defined spikes and an elongated or sculpted eye shape.
Think structured rather than simply fluffy.
The finished result can be very dramatic, but Arabic-inspired styling can also be softened depending on the client, their natural lashes and the effect they want.
Why Is L Curl So Good for Arabic Lashes?
One of the most recognisable features of many Arabic-inspired sets is the strong upward lift and directional shape.
That happens to be exactly what L Curl lashes are particularly good at creating.
L Curl Has a Straighter Base
Unlike traditional rounded curls, L Curl begins with a relatively straight base before lifting more sharply.
This gives lash artists more control over direction and can create a clean, structured finish.
L Curl Creates a Strong Lifted Effect
That sharper change in angle works particularly well with elongated maps, fox-eye styling, defined outer corners and structured textured sets.
Rather than the softer curve you would expect from a C, CC or D Curl, L Curl creates a more deliberate directional shape.
If you want to try the curl before committing to a full tray, our L Curl Lash Sample Tray contains 5 rows of 0.07 L Curl in mixed 11–15mm lengths.
Do You Need L Curl to Create Arabic Lashes?
No.
There is no single curl, lash map or technique that automatically makes a set an “Arabic lash set”.
You can also mix L Curl with other curls where needed to create variation in lift, texture or direction across the set.
However, if you want that particularly sharp, lifted and elongated effect, L Curl is definitely worth having in your kit.
The curl should still be chosen according to the client’s natural lash direction, eye shape and the finished look you are trying to achieve.
Our L Curl Trays Are Volume Lashes
This is important.
Our Platinum L Curl Volume Lashes are loose volume fibres designed for trained lash artists to hand-make their own fans.
They are not pre-made fans or ready-made Arabic lash spikes.
Handmade fan creation gives experienced volume artists control over fan width, fan size, density, placement, direction and texture - all of which are useful when creating a structured style like Arabic-inspired lashes.
What L Curl Diameter Should You Use?
That depends on the volume technique you’re using and the natural lash you’re working with.
Our full-size Platinum L Curl Volume Mixed Trays are available in 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.10, with 16 rows of mixed 8–15mm lengths.
0.03 L Curl
A very fine diameter for lightweight handmade volume fans and higher-dimensional volume styling.
0.05 L Curl
A versatile option for handmade volume, texture and fuller Arabic-inspired sets.
0.07 L Curl
A popular choice for traditional handmade volume fans and artists wanting slightly more definition from each fibre.
0.10 L Curl
Suitable for techniques using fewer fibres per fan where appropriate for the natural lashes and the artist’s chosen styling method.
Whatever diameter you choose, the finished fan weight must always be suitable for the individual natural lash.
How Do You Create the Arabic Lash Effect?
There isn’t one universal Arabic lash map - and that’s part of the appeal.
The style is about combining density, direction and texture rather than following one exact sequence of numbers.
Start With the Eye Shape
Before deciding where your longest lashes are going, assess the natural eye shape, lash direction, lash density, natural lash strength, lid and brow structure and the client’s preferred level of drama.
A map that looks amazing on one client won’t necessarily create the same result on another.
Build a Darker Lash Line With Handmade Fans
One of the defining features of many Arabic-inspired sets is the contrast between a darker lash line and more noticeable texture above it.
Handmade volume fans can be used to build that density through the base of the set.
For a softer interpretation, you might create lighter, more open fans. For a more dramatic effect, appropriately constructed handmade fans can create greater density through the lash line and help the longer textured sections stand out.
More dramatic does not mean ignoring safe lash weight. Fan size and diameter must always be chosen according to what the individual natural lash can safely support.
Add Defined Spikes
Spikes are one of the easiest ways to introduce the visible texture associated with this style.
Rather than creating a perfectly even top line, selected longer lengths can break through the main body of the set.
Artists can create these textured sections using narrow handmade fans or another suitable professional lash technique, depending on the finished effect they want.
A smaller difference between the main body of the set and the spikes creates something softer. A larger difference creates much more drama.
Use Direction as Part of the Design
Arabic-inspired styling isn’t only about length.
Direction can completely change the appearance of a lash set.
The sharper profile of L Curl allows an experienced artist to create more deliberate directional styling, particularly through the outer sections of an elongated map.
Used thoughtfully, this can give the eye a crisp, lifted finish without simply relying on increasingly long extensions.
Can You Mix L Curl With Other Curls?
Yes.
You don’t have to use one curl across an entire set.
An artist may choose different curls to accommodate changes in natural lash direction or to create variation in lift, texture or direction through different sections of the eye.
Just remember that curls with very different profiles should not automatically be treated as interchangeable simply because the millimetre length printed on the tray is the same.
Always look at the finished height and direction when planning the set.
Arabic Lashes Aren’t Just Mega Volume
It’s easy to see a dramatic set and assume Arabic lashes automatically mean enormous volume fans.
They don’t.
The defining feature is much more about the overall styling.
A trained volume artist could create a softer textured Arabic-inspired set, a wispy version with defined spikes, a dense glamorous version or an elongated L Curl volume set.
The client’s natural lashes should determine how much volume can safely be added - not the name of the trend.
Want to Try L Curl Without Buying a Full Tray?
If you’ve never worked with L Curl before, it can feel very different from the traditional C, CC and D curls many artists use every day.
Our L Curl Lash Sample Tray contains 5 rows of 0.07 L Curl in mixed 11–15mm lengths, giving trained volume artists the chance to practise handmade fan creation, pickup, placement and directional styling before moving to a full-size tray.
It’s also a simple way to experiment with an Arabic-inspired map and see how L Curl behaves in your own work.
Ready for a Full L Curl Tray?
Our Platinum L Curl Volume Lashes – 16 Row Mixed Tray contains mixed 8–15mm lengths and is available in 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.10.
These are professional volume lashes designed for handmade fan creation, giving experienced volume artists control over fan size, density, direction and texture.
The Bottom Line
Arabic lashes aren’t a special type of extension you suddenly need to add to your kit.
They’re a styling aesthetic combining lift, definition, density, texture and considered mapping.
And while there is no rule saying you must use L Curl, its straighter base and sharper lift make it particularly suited to the strong directional styling seen in many Arabic-inspired sets.
For trained volume artists, handmade L Curl fans also give you control over the density, texture and direction of the finished set.
So if there’s an abandoned tray of L Curl sitting at the back of your lash drawer… this might be its moment.
