Patch testing: why it matters
It can be tempting to skip a patch test, especially with returning clients, but it plays an important role in both client safety and professional practice.
Patch testing helps identify potential sensitivities or allergic reactions before carrying out a full treatment. Reactions don’t always appear immediately, which is why regular testing including for existing clients is recommended.
For lash lifts and brow laminations, a structured approach ensures consistency:
Tint is applied to one area, with lifting and setting solutions tested separately
Each area is protected to avoid transfer or interference
Products are left for a short period before removal
The skin is then monitored for any signs of irritation or reaction
Patch testing is typically carried out 24–48 hours prior to treatment, making it a natural part of the consultation process and helping you prepare confidently.
As part of your duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act, taking reasonable steps to minimise risk is essential and patch testing is widely recognised as best practice within the industry and by insurers.
A small step that makes a significant difference for both you and your clients.
